Nordic Forest Research (SNS) hereby announces a NordForNet funding call running from 2022-2026. Nordic Forest research Network (NordForNet) is replacing the former CAR (Centres of Advanced Research).
SNS wishes to support networks within important areas related to sustainable management of forest resources, as well as networks exploring ways to balance different/conflicting goals related to forests in order to meet the demands and expectations of the society. This includes the balance between forest production and forest protection.
Addressing biodiversity, the role of forests as a carbon sink, forest resilience and forest resources as a source of value and job creation in rural areas are priority areas for SNS.
SNS emphasises the importance of applications being specific regarding the topic/problem addressed and the expected outcome. Networks dealing with interdisciplinary challenges are preferred. Moreover, it will be an advantage to have representatives from academia, industry and public sector to provide a clear policy link (triple helix cooperation).
Note that applications do not need the cover all the above-mentioned areas. Other qualified applications not covered by the scope of this call are also welcome.
Participants in submitted network applications should include researchers from at least three countries in the Nordic region*, and successful applicants may receive funds from SNS of approximately 300-600.000 SEK/year for five years, covering a maximum of 10 % of the total budget.
The aim of the SNS NordForNet call is to:
- Provide means for long-term networking and coordination
- Interlink projects initiated in the Nordic region
- Increase synergies in forest research in the Nordic countries
- Promote cross sectoral collaboration of sectors within a sustainable bioeconomy
- Bridge gaps between research and forestry in practice
