Forests are an important natural resource, and sustainable management of them has a role to play in addressing many of the most important challenges facing the world, as described in the UN sustainability targets. The Nordic region has developed a sustainable model worthy of being presented in other parts of the world.
At its meeting on 29 June 2016, the Council of Ministers for Fisheries and Aquaculture, Agriculture, Food and Forestry (MR-FJLS) adopted a new strategy for the forestry sector. The strategy – Nordic Forest Solutions – follows up on the 2008 Selfoss Declaration.
The recurring theme in Nordic Forest Solutions is the role played by forests in the economy, environment and society.
Nordic Forest Solutions places emphasis on the communicative role played by the Nordic region. As well as strategic initiatives, it also describes ways in which “the Nordic voice” can be promoted and heard.
