INFOBIOM – Nordic network for integrated forest resource and biodiversity monitoring

Coordinator: Johannes Breidenbach, NIBIO,
Funding: 3 000 000 SEK
Duration: 2022–2026

INFOBIOM will analyze indicators used in assessment of habitat quality and hence the preservation of biodiversity by bringing together experts in large-scale monitoring (i.e. National Forest Inventories, NFIs) and biodiversity.
We will address the quality of the indicators based on the criteria completeness, relevance, measurability, reliability and operationality, and strive for an acceptable set of criteria from all points of view.
Furthermore, we will bridge the gap between regional estimates obtained from NFIs and geographically explicit information by coupling big data from remote sensing and NFI-data using Deep Learning as a promising method for producing information on biodiversity on multiple scales. Specifically, we will address the accuracy of the produced maps using the NFI data for evaluation to make informed decisions.
