Funding for Nordic forest researchers – NEW DEADLINE: September 30th

2021 is a super year for SNS: three calls ongoing at the same time. To make it easier for you to apply, the application period is prolonged for all three calls to September 30th . At that time the vacations are over and hopefully the corona pandemic too.

Forget what you previously have read about deadlines for the SNS applications for both annual networks, research projects and long term networking activities in NordForNets. We have prolonged the application period for all of them until September 30th. So, this is the date to remember: September 30th 2021.

Forest researchers in the Nordic region have a lot to gain from collaboration in regards of, for example, similar climate and policies in the different countries. Take the chance to apply for funding for networking activities or research project, that can create synergies and interlink projects in the Nordic countries.

SNS OPEN CALLS:

Annual networks:

Is there a need for a conference in your area of forest research? Or do you need to create a platform for discussions? Apply for funding for an annual network. Applicants may receive funds of maximum 200 000 SEK for activities over the course of one year (2022), covering at most 50% of the total budget for the network.

Focus areas of the network should be close to one (or more) of the focus areas of SNS strategy:

• Maintenance and increased utilization of forest-based ecosystem services
• Climate change mitigation and adaptation
• Meeting the demands of sustainable forest management in a growing bioeconomy

Participants in submitted networks should represent at least five countries consisting of at least three research institutions in the Nordic region. Participants of relevance for the activities of the network from outside of the Nordic region can also be included.

Research projects:

SNS wishes to support projects addressing topics related to

• sustainable management of forest resources, as well as
• projects exploring ways to balance different/conflicting goals related to forests in order to meet the demands and expectations of the society. This includes the balance between forest production and forest protection.

Addressing biodiversity, the role of forests as a carbon sink and forest resilience are priority areas.

Note that applications do not need to cover all the above-mentioned areas. SNS emphasises the importance of applications being specific regarding the topic/problem addressed and the expected outcome.

Participants in submitted projects should include researchers from at least three countries in the Nordic region, and successful applicants may receive funds of approximately 100-350.000 SEK/year for three years, covering at most a third of the total budget for the project.
