SNS network meeting: Fungi in focus

Are you interested in forest fungi? Join the NEFOM meeting in February 8-10!

Mushrooms growing in moss. Photo. The SNS network NEFOM is planning a meeting to discuss fungal issues. February 8 is reserved for the theme “Fungal mediation of sustainable forestry”. Questions asked are: How do mycologists fit into the polarized debate on forest production versus biodiversity versus climate mitigation? Which support of links between fungal biodiversity and ecosystem effects do we have? Who should this data be presented to (apart from the scientific community), and how?

The second day, February 9, will be a day with the theme “Implementing fungal traits to link fungal diversity with ecosystem properties”. There will be presentations about the FunGuild database, the UNITE database and fungal traits at the community level (metatranscriptomics).

NEFOM also aim at getting presentations from all represented groups in the network, preferably by students and postdocs, either under the above themes or in the afternoon the second day.

The third day the participants will have the opportunity to participate in an excursion. Where to and what it will contain isn’t decided yet. The participants can still make suggestions!

The meeting will take place at Ultuna in Uppsala, Sweden. The meeting and accommodation is funded by SNS/EFINORD. Invited guests and students can get travel expenses reimbursed, the rest of the participants may have to pay their travels themselves. A number of single and double rooms are booked at Sunnersta Herrgård in walking distance from campus.

Sign up for the NEFOM 2018 meeting before January 11th!
