To mitigate and adapt to climate change, while simultaneously mitigating the biodiversity crisis, is a complicated issue. That issue will be the focus at the Scandinavian Society of Forest Economics (SSFE) 2025 Biennial Meeting (May 20–May 22, 2025 Oslo region, Norway).
The purpose of the meeting is to bring together researchers with forest economics and forest policy countries to discuss the main theme of the meeting: climate change adaptation, climate mitigation potential and the nature crisis in Nordic forests. That is also the main focus in the network activities which goes on all year around.
– We aim to strengthen Nordic-Baltic knowledge exchange and networking in economics of sustainable forest management, says Per Kr. Rørstad, Associate Professor at the Norwegian University of Life Sciences, and also the coordinator of the network.
The members in the network that organises the meeting, covers a wide range of topics; business economics of forestry and forest management and planning, forest policy, forest industry and forest products markets and international forestry.
– Participants at the biennial meeting will mainly be from the Nordic and Baltic countries, but the meeting is “open to world”. We usually have participants also from the rest of Europe and the USA. We encourage PhD students and young researchers to participate to meet established researchers and academics from research institutions and universities.
The organisers offer financial support to PhD students and young researchers presenting papers.
– It is important for SSFE to offer opportunities to young scientists and doctoral students to present their ideas and network in an encouraging atmosphere.
– We will also have a special session on LULUCF (Land Use, Land-Use Change and Forestry) regulations and energy policy in the EU. We hope that we can foster new ideas about policy design and thereby improve policy in the EU, says Per Kr. Rørstad.
