The workshop was organized by SNS as part of the NordGen Forest conference on September 8–9 in Bergen, Norway. The purpose of the workshop was to address key questions on how to secure future seed and seedling supply: what are the challenges, and how do we manage them?
Participants identified several knowledge gaps related to seed and seedling supply in a changing climate. The issue given the highest priority by most participants concerned the risks associated with pests and pathogens. Many also felt that the economic aspects of new tree species and value chains are well worth exploring further, as is the social acceptance of various policies and measures, along with how relevant stakeholders can be involved in their development.
Now, the project on future seed and seedling supply will continue, drawing on the workshop’s conclusions. The SNS secretariat will make good use of the discussions and conclusions from the workshop and compile them into guidance for addressing these issues in the future. We believe that Nordic cooperation is a vital tool for coping with a changing climate and fostering the growth of the green sectors!

Håll ett öga på framtidens risker för frö- och plantförsörjningen
Skadegörare och patogener kan bli en betydande risk för frö- och plantförsörjningen i framtiden. Det anser i alla fall deltagarna i tisdagens workshop i Bergen.

Workshopen arrangerades av SNS, som en del av Nordgen Forests konferens 8-9 september i norska Bergen. Syftet med workshopen var att den skulle besvara frågor om hur vi ska garantera tillgången till frö och plantor i framtiden; vilka är utmaningarna och hur hanterar vi dem?
Deltagarna identifierade flera kunskapsluckor kopplade till frö- och plantförsörjning i ett föränderligt klimat. Det som flest ansåg ha hög prioritet, handlade om risker kopplade till skadegörare och patogener. Många ansåg också att ekonomiska aspekter av nya trädslag och värdekedjor är väl värda att fundera närmare på, liksom social acceptans för olika policyer och åtgärder och hur berörda aktörer kan involveras i utvecklingen av dessa.
Nu kommer projektet om framtidens frö- och plantförsörjning fortsätta med workshopens slutsatser som resultat. SNS sekretariat kommer att ta väl vara på diskussioner och slutsatser från workshopen, och sammanställa det till en vägledning inför framtida hantering av frågorna. Vi tror att nordiskt samarbete är till stor hjälp i att klara ett förändrat klimat och utvecklingen av de gröna sektorerna!
