New award for Nordic forest collaborations

SNS establishes a new award! The SNS Nordic Forest Collaboration Award aims to encourage and reward successful Nordic forest collaboration.

The very first winner of the award will be presented at the Nordic Forest Summit 2026 in Stockholm in April. With the new award, SNS aims to to recognize and reward successful Nordic collaborations and stimulate long-term networks between research, management, and practice.

Why is a new award needed in the forestry sector?
– Forests are a crucial resource for addressing climate change. To succeed as effectively and quickly as possible, collaboration is essential. That’s why we want to highlight and strengthen those successfully working to create synergies in the Nordic region, says Jonas Rönnberg, Secretary General of SNS.

National borders irrelevant

Nordic forestry and forest research are confronted with common challenges tied to climate change, biodiversity loss, the bioeconomy, forest damage, and growing societal expectations for sustainable management. These issues extend beyond individual countries, demanding joint action and collaboration across nations, fields of expertise, and industries.

Since its founding, SNS has been dedicated to fostering Nordic cooperation in forest research, innovation, and the sharing of knowledge. To further promote and recognize these efforts, a new annual award is proposed to honor exceptional Nordic collaboration within the forestry sector. It also reinforces SNS’s position as the leading Nordic platform for cooperation in the forest sector.

Good examples

The award will be given to persons or initiatives that create concrete benefits for forest research, the forest sector at large, or society. Another specific aim will be to bridge research, policy, and practical forestry.

– We hope the award will create role models and good examples for future collaborations. It’s important to highlight the societal benefits and relevance of forests, Says Jonas Rönnberg.
