For this year’s edition of Elmia Wood, taking place June 5–7 outside Jönköping, the Swedish Forest Society Foundation (Föreningen Skogen) and the Nordic Council of Ministers’ SNS (Nordic Forest Research) have launched a closer collaboration. During the three-day fair, the organizations will share a joint booth on the grounds, offering visitors valuable content – both edible and educational.

The theme for Thursday and Friday is forest damage caused by, for example, fire, storms, insects, and fungi. A number of researchers will share their findings and real-world examples. Moderator for these days is Johan Larsson, Secretary General of the Swedish Forest Society Foundation.
Saturday’s theme is gender equality and skills provision in the forest sector. This day will also feature discussions and examples from the field, moderated by Jonas Rönnberg, leader of SNS.
The booth also includes a fireplace where visitors can enjoy grilled sausages and marshmallows. Around the fire, there will be opportunities for “Sausage and Science” – after their presentations, researchers will be available by the fire to discuss and answer questions about their talks.
– Our members want to learn more about forest management and other aspects of the forest’s many values. They like to think critically and make informed decisions about their forests. Elmia Wood is a golden opportunity for us to offer a hub of knowledge for sustainable forestry in Sweden and to meet current and future members, says Johan Larsson, Secretary General of the Swedish Forest Society Foundation.
– At SNS, we want to highlight Nordic research collaboration. Our countries share similar climates and conditions. We can go further and work more efficiently when we collaborate. Elmia Wood, with its international focus, is of great interest to us. Here, we want to share knowledge with interested visitors and inspire students to possibly pursue research in forest management, says Jonas Rönnberg, leader of SNS (Nordic Forest Research).
An exclusive evening event for members of the Swedish Forest Society Foundation will also be held in the booth after closing hours, featuring a talk by SLU researcher Mats Jonsell on bark beetle damage, followed by a networking mingle.
