IUFRO World Congress 2024 in retrospective

With a little perspective on the IUFRO World Congress 2024 in Stockholm, we say: success! SNS represented the Nordic view, among national and global initiatives.

If you participated at the IUFRO congress, you passed the SNS booth. It was centrally located, just at the entrance to the exhibition hall. Even the Swedish King Carl XVI Gustaf stopped by and talked to SNS Jonas Rönnberg and watched the forest machine being driven in a forest somewhere in Sweden, remotely controlled from the SNS stand.

We also had the great opportunity to meet many new and “old” colleagues, students, stakeholders and people from the industry. We both gained and gave new perspectives, and all the partners in our stand contributed to a diversity in the program we offered during the week.

On Monday, LUKE held a panel debate on “competitive sustainability and security from European forests”. The audience at this debate, as in several cases during the week, was bigger than we had chairs for – thanks to everyone who joined all of our events during the week! Later in the day, the editor of Scandinavian Journal of Forest Research, Igor Drobyshev gave tips on how to get published in a scientific journal. Useful for many, not least young researchers.

Sustainability, Nordic solutions and equality were themes in the booth during Tuesday. The SNS funded NorForNet InfoBiom also had a meeting and elaborated its work.

On Thursday, SNS arranged a matchmaking event that was highly appreciated by the participants, who got the chance to meet new colleagues and boost their careers. They also had an opportunity to make contacts to apply for funding for networking activities in SNS open calls.

Another very popular event on a couple of occasions in the SNS booth during the week was Henrietta Flack’s duo playing folk music.
