Coordinator: Kari T Korhonen, kari.t.korhonen@luke.fi

Globally, the first statistical sampling based national forest inventories were started in the Nordic countries: 1919 in Norway, 2021 in Finland and 2023 in Sweden.

The Nordic Cooperation Group for Forest Inventory, established 1970s, has held regular biannual meetings to bring together forest inventory and forestry planning specialists and scientists in Nordic, Baltic, and recently also other European countries.

In 2021, this group plans to meet in Finland, back-to-back with FAO Global Forest Resource Assessment Expert Consultation meeting.  In this workshop the 100 year experience of NFI in Finland will be used as the frame to share the most recent findings in the field of forest inventory and forest planning sciences.
