About AdapCAR

Centre for Advanced Research in forest genetics, breeding and regeneration for adapting and mitigating climate change (2011-2015)

Coordinator: Professor Erik Dahl Kjaer, University of Copenhagen, Denmark,

National coordinators:

Senior Researcher Tuija Aronen, METLA, Finland,

Research Director Aðalsteinn Sigurgeirsson, Iceland forest service, Iceland,

Associate Professor Gunnar Jansson, Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences,

Senior Research Scientist Igor Yakovlev, Norwegian Forest and Landscape Institute,

Financing: 400.000 DKK/year for 5 years

Many of the core group members of this new CAR were involved in the former GENECAR group, which was active between 2005 and 2010. The scientific motivation behind AdapCAR is the need to increase knowledge about the adaptation of forest trees to global warming. Maladapted trees are prone to diseases, and the genetic variability associated with adaptable traits is essential for the health of trees in a changing climate. The overall aim of AdapCAR is to support development and implementation of good practices for use and management of forest genetic resources.
